Desarrollado por la compañía Novothink, orientada a la integración de tecnología solar y dispositivos electrónicos portables, Surge es un cargador solar híbrido con forma de carcasa rígida que protege el iPod o el iPhone, dejando la pantalla táctil al descubierto para permitir su uso.
El Surge cuenta con una terminal de carga en su parte interior, en la que se acopla el iPod/iPhone, permitiendo su carga directa, ya sea por energía solar, mediante un panel solar ubicado en su parte trasera; o por medio de alimentación USB.
Además cuenta con una batería interna y un indicador LED que permiten que el Surge sea cargado de forma individual, mediante exposición solar o alimentación USB, almacenando la energía para posteriormente traspasarla al iPod/iPhone.
De acuerdo con sus desarrolladores, esta batería permite duplicar el tiempo de uso de la batería del iPod/iPhone.
Las carcasas están disponibles en una variedad de colores y están pensadas para no entorpecer el uso de los dispositivos: la entrada mini USB, permite la sincronización con iTunes y sus perforaciones especiales permiten la colocación de audífonos, la salida directa del sonido a través los parlantes y, en el caso del Surge para iPhone, la toma de fotografías.

Introducing Surge, the first Apple-certified solar charger for iPod and iPhone.
Developed by Novothink, a company focused on bringing solar technology together with portable electronic devices, Surge is a hybrid solar charger in the shape of a rigid case that covers the iPod or iPhone, while leaving the touchscreen exposed and able to be used.
The Surge includes a charge terminal on the inside, to which the iPod/iPhone should be attached, allowing it to be charged either by solar energy, through a solar panel located on its back; or by USB feeding, through a mini USB port.
It also has an internal battery and a LED indicator that allow the Surge to be charged by its own, by solar exposition or USB feed, saving the energy to be later transferred to the iPod or iPhone.
According to its developers, this battery duplicates the iPod/iPhone battery life.
The cases are available in a variety of colors, and they are designed so they won’t hinder the iPod/iPhone’s performance. The mini USB input allows synchronization with iTunes and its multiple perforations permit headphones input, direct sound outlet through speakers and, for the iPhone, the proper usage of the camera without the need of removing the case.
